antiX: Debian stable, without systemd, for lighter machines
antiX is Debian stable without systemd or elogind, meant for old and new computers. The live session is central to the project. The pages read do not describe telemetry.
Before you get started
What to expect
antiX fits if the machine is modest and you accept a light desktop. It is not a dressed-up Windows. It is Debian stable, slimmed, with the project’s choices.
Who it is for
antiX fits if an old computer should stay usable, or if you want to try live before installing. It fits poorly if you want GNOME, systemd, or the drivers of the newest laptop with nothing to adjust.
What you gain
You get a Debian stable base, a system advertised as fast and light, and a live USB the project has worked on for years. The series named on the site is antiX-26. The desktop is not that of a heavy general-purpose distribution.
What you take on
You take on the absence of systemd and elogind. Software that requires them will not install as it would elsewhere. The site also calls itself proudly anti-fascist: that is the project’s voice, not a system feature. Support is the forum and the wiki shared with MX.
Privacy
The pages read do not describe an antiX telemetry program. The base is Debian stable: the popularity-contest package, if it is offered and if you install it, sends a package statistic. We did not read whether it is in the antiX image.
A light system does not stop Firefox or another browser from calling its own servers.
The decision
Choose antiX to keep a machine going, live first. Take Debian itself if you want systemd and the more common desktop. Do not take it as an audit of silence.
