CachyOS: Arch already built for recent processors
CachyOS is Arch whose packages are advertised as rebuilt for recent instruction sets. The gain is aimed at those processors. The pages read do not describe a telemetry program.
Before you get started
What to expect
Take CachyOS if you want Arch’s pace and the advertised optimizations for x86-64-v3, v4 or Zen 4. Do not take it as a guided desktop, or as proof that nothing leaves the machine.
Who it is for
CachyOS fits if you want Arch, with a graphical or command-line installer, and packages already rebuilt for a recent processor. It fits poorly if your processor is outside the instruction sets they highlight, or if you do not want a rolling release.
What you gain
The project advertises packages built for x86-64-v3, x86-64-v4 and Zen 4, its own kernel, and a choice between Calamares and a command-line installer. Several desktops are offered at install, from KDE Plasma to window managers. The speed gain is their claim, not a SecuFocus measurement.
What you take on
You take on Arch’s pace: packages move, and an update can need a manual step. An optimization tied to an instruction set does not apply to a machine that lacks it. The pages read do not list the processors left out.
Privacy
The pages read do not describe a CachyOS telemetry program. That is not proof the machine stays quiet. A browser, an added repository or an AUR package can still call a server. No image was inspected.
The decision
Choose CachyOS for Arch already aimed at a recent processor and a guided install. Stay with Debian or Mint if you want slower updates and a desktop that does not assume this base.
