KeePassium: a KeePass file on iPhone and Mac
KeePassium opens KeePass databases on iOS and macOS, with system autofill and Files-app sync. You still need to check the file backup.
Before you get started
What to expect
KeePassium is a KeePass app for iOS and macOS. The site describes sync with providers that appear in the Files app, autofill, Face ID or Touch ID, and support for KDB, KDBX3 and KDBX4. The project says it has been audited. This page does not re-read that report for you.
The Files app carries the vault, it does not replace it
KeePassium can open a local database or one stored with a provider that appears in Files, including iCloud Drive. The automatic sync it describes is sync of the file. If the provider keeps only one version, a bad save can overwrite a newer database.
You decide where the file lives. The app helps you manage it. Before you put everyday logins in it, open the same database on a second device and check that a change made on one comes back on the other.
Autofill, biometrics and a hardware key
The site describes Password AutoFill for sites and apps, and unlock with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode. A YubiKey can protect the database, over NFC or Lightning, with an implementation presented as compatible with KeePassXC. That helps only if you have the key, and a way to open the database without it if you planned that second factor and then lose the key.
The code is under GPL v3. The site also states an independent audit. We did not repeat that audit. Read the report the project publishes if that question decides your choice.
Premium is not the security of the file
Some functions are reserved for a paid offer. Encryption of the KeePass file does not depend on that offer: it depends on the format and the secret. Do not confuse a convenience subscription with protection of the database.
Reviews quoted on the homepage are not measurements. They do not say whether AutoFill works in your bank.
