PrivacyNotes: encrypted vault for notes and tasks

PrivacyNotes presents an encrypted vault for notes, tasks and journals. The public page we could read does not document recovery.

Before you get started

What to expect

The official PrivacyNotes site presents an encrypted vault for notes, tasks and journals. The public HTML we could read on 2 October 2026 does not, in the visible text, document how passwords are stored or how you regain access without the main secret. Until that model is clear, do not move your keyring.

Read recovery before you trust the vault

A tool that mixes notes, tasks and secrets can be convenient. It becomes risky if you do not know what happens when you lose the device or the secret that opens it. The public homepage announces an encrypted vault. In the version read here, it is not enough to describe recovery.

Do not fill that gap with a summary found somewhere else. Open the project’s own documentation, or the official app, and write one sentence on how you would get the data back. If that sentence does not exist, the tool is not ready for your passwords.

What this page does not claim

We do not say that PrivacyNotes is end-to-end encrypted, that it works without an account, or that a recovery phrase is enough. Those points were not established in the public HTML we consulted. Stating them without a precise source would invent a protection.

If the project later publishes a security guide, this page should be revised. Until then, keep credentials in a manager whose recovery is already written down, such as the one you already use.
