AnduinOS: a dressed Ubuntu, and a claim of silence

AnduinOS 2.0 is Ubuntu 26.04 with a GNOME desktop presented as familiar. The project states that no telemetry is integrated. The image was not inspected. The download page also pushes a host.

Before you get started

What to expect

AnduinOS fits a move to Linux without relearning GNOME. The telemetry sentence is theirs. An Ubuntu base can still ask Ubuntu’s question, until someone opens the image.

Who it is for

AnduinOS fits if you want a desktop close to Windows habits, on Ubuntu packages, without assembling the system. It fits poorly if you want a base the project does not derive, or an independent proof of silence.

What you gain

The page announces version 2.0.3, an image of about 2.35 GB, GNOME 50, Ubuntu 26.04 packages and support until April 2031 for that branch. Graphical apps go through Flatpak since 1.3, with separate permissions. The code is under GPL-3.

What you take on

You follow a team that also publishes an Enterprise offer, by contract. The download page shows a referral to Vultr, with a possible reward for the project if you become a customer. That is the website, not proof the installed system does it.

Privacy

The project writes that no telemetry is integrated, and that it does not track you. That is a statement. We did not open the image to see whether Ubuntu Insights is still there.

Ubuntu, the base, documents opt-in telemetry. Until that removal is shown, treat the first question at install as the check, not the slogan.

The decision

Choose AnduinOS for the familiar desktop on Ubuntu 26.04, and look at the first-boot questions. Do not choose it as a privacy audit. None was done.
