EndeavourOS: Arch, a terminal, and the AUR already in reach
EndeavourOS is a terminal-centric Arch, with an installer and the community as the support. It ships yay, a helper for the AUR. The policy we read covers the website, not the system.
Before you get started
What to expect
EndeavourOS fits if you want Arch without choosing every piece by hand, and if you accept the AUR. The website does not measure visits. That says nothing about what the installed system sends.
Who it is for
EndeavourOS fits if you want Arch, a terminal, and a community rather than a vendor. The stated minimums are 15 GB of disk, 4 GB of memory and a 64-bit processor. It fits poorly if you want a desktop that does not leave you Arch’s upkeep.
What you gain
You get pacman, a FirewallD firewall on the public zone, and a bootloader choice: systemd-boot by default on recent EFI machines, GRUB for older hardware. The installer can also skip the bootloader if you already have one.
What you take on
You take on Arch. yay makes the AUR easy. On 12 June 2026, Arch announced a high volume of malicious packages in that community repository. A helper does not review each package for you.
Privacy
The policy dated 5 September 2026 covers the website: static files, no accounts, no analytics, no cookies. Server logs keep IP addresses, with a stated effort to keep them no more than 90 days. The page itself says it does not cover the forum, donations or the mirrors.
It does not describe what the installed system sends. The project pages we read do not document EndeavourOS telemetry. The browser and added packages remain separate.
The decision
Choose EndeavourOS if Arch suits you and you will treat the AUR as a repository of strangers. Take Debian or Mint if you want the first day not to start with that choice.
